    Maybe it should be very better if you generate altitudes in a different bmp. It will make your map-generation very easier.

    Just remember that water must be all at the same altitude and that the coast line should be kept at the same altitude of the water (at least the first initial tile) because it has to be changed if you want to have a good coastline...
